I also feel indebted to my beloved parents, who have given me unfailing support and encouragement through the whole year of working. iii Abstract Katherine Mansfield (1888—1923),a famous short story writer, is born in New Zealand. But herliterary achievements rank her as one of the most distinguished British writers, due to her long-term habitation and literary career in England. Away from her motherland, Mansfield‘s fixed New Zealand nationality and her childhood experiences,which are considered to be the main source of her New Zealandtheme, exert a deep influence on her prose-like description of slice of life and the vivid inner monologue, which e her innovation to the form and technique of modern sh
