主题要有特色而且精巧。定位要有特色，内容要精巧。如果想制作一个包罗万象的站点，把所有认为精彩的东西都放在上面，那么往往会事与愿违，给人的感觉是没有主题，没有特色，样样有却样样都很肤浅，因为不可能有那么多的精力去维护它。网络的最大特点就是新和快，目前最热门的主页都是天天更新甚至几小时更新一次。最新的调查结果也显示，网络上的"主题站"比"万全站"更受人们喜爱，就好比专卖店和百货商店，如果我需要买某方面的东西，肯定会选择专买店。你想做一个什么样的网站一定要选一个点作为网站的主题。
一个杰出的网站，和实体公司一样，也需要整体的形象包装和设计。准确的，有创意的形象设计，对网站的宣传推广有事半功倍的效果。在网站主题和名称定下来之后，需要思考的就是网站的形象。
(logo)。Logo顾名思义就是站点的标志图案，是用图形化的方式传递网站的定位和经营理念、同时便于人们识别。就如同商标一样，logo是站点特色和内涵的集中体现，看见logo就让大家联想起站点。标志可以是中文，英文字母，可以是符号，图案，可以是动物或者人物等等。标志的设计创意来自网站的名称和内容。
网站logo的设计过程中一般有以下三种思路：
1).直接以网站网址作为logo，如：网易、新浪、搜狐三个门户网站的logo。
2).根据网站提供的产品/服务特点展开logo设计。
3).以传递网站运营商的经营理念为特色，如：全球五金网logo()。

网站给人的第一印象来自视觉冲击，确定网站的标准色彩是相当重要的一步。标准色彩"是指能体现网站型象和延伸内涵的色彩。例如：IBM的深蓝色，肯得基的红色条型，windows视窗标志上的红蓝黄绿色块，都使我们觉得很贴切，很和谐。标准色彩要用于网站的标志，标题，主菜单和主色块。给人以整体统一的感觉。至于其它色彩也可以使用，只是作为点缀和衬托，绝不能喧宾夺主。
