Background:
- You and I are non-native English speakers and share some difficulties
- After doing many reviews of Chinese manuscripts, I got some experience what might be useful
information for young Chinese authors.

The importance of publishing in English
- There is a rich tradition in national (Chinese, German, French, etc.) scientific literature,
but…
- Publications in peer reviewed journals are required in cumulative PhD Thesis
and research funding applications and reports
- they make your research results available to the international munity
- they stimulate you and other scientists in your field
- they facilitate international cooperations
Some basic thoughts about publishing in general
- Publications is a linear (one-directional) communication process between a writer and an
audience and therefore has to follow principles that make understanding as easy as
possible
− Publication is also a technical process in which (beside the writer and the reader) an
editorial process in involved that set the formal framework of writing (style, length,
graphics, fonts, formats, etc.)
− Publication needs language skills and a essful strategy of manuscript design
