1、玉溪的人口
玉溪市素有"云烟之乡"，"花灯之乡"和"聂耳故乡"的美誉。这里是中国优质烤烟生产基地，座落着亚洲最大的现代化卷烟企业--玉溪红塔烟草（集团）有限责任公司，生产享誉海内外的"红塔山"等名牌卷烟；这里具有浓郁地方特色的花灯歌舞，演遍中国的大江南北；这里还是《中华人民共和国国歌》曲作者，人民音乐家聂耳的故乡。
玉溪市位于云南省的中部，北纬23°19′～24°53′ 、 东经 101°16′～103°09′。北接昆明市，西南连普洱市，东南邻红河哈尼族彝族自治州，西北靠楚雄彝族自治州。辖一区八县，即红塔区，江川、澄江、通海、华宁、易门县，以及峨山、新平、元江三个民族自治县。区域最大横距172千米，，总面积15，285平方公里，人口210万，市区三十万，人均收入是云南最高的。
