一、辅音字母的读音规则
c 在字母 e, i, y前读 /s/，如 cell, cit'y , cyst ；
其余情况下读/K/，如cat, club , code.
g 在字母 e，i，y前读 / ? /，女口er ve ； sir ,fir st,d irt'y,c ir 'cle,m yr 'tle ；
h ur t,n ur se,ret ur n',m ur 'mur.
注 1 . 双 r前的音节，是闭音节，不是 r音节。如： car'ry,m ar'ry,b er'ry,m i r'ror,s o r'ry,h u r'ry.
注2 . 在/w/ 音后，ar 读/ ?:/,如口 war ,war m,w ar n ； or 读/?:/ ,如口 wor d,w or k,w or ld,w or se.
re音节指元音字母与 re结合而成的音节。
在re 音节中：are 读/e?/ ，ere 读/i?/ ，ire,yre 读/ai?/ ，ore 读/ ?:/ , ure 读/ ju? /。如：
care ,d are ,rare ,h are ,prep are '； here ,m ere ,severe ' ； fire ,w ire ,tire ,ent ire ',tyre ；
more ,f ore ,core ,bef ore ' ； cure ,p ure ,end ure '
四、 兀音字母在非重读音节中的读音规则
a, o, u 读/?/ ，如口 Chi'n a, sec' ond, dif'fic u lt.
e, i, y 读/i/ ,如口 result',vic't i m,hap'p y.
ar, er, ir, or, ur, yr 读/?/ ,如口 gram'm ar ,let't er ,cir cum'f er ence,doc't or ,
mur'm ur ,mar't yr ,per sist',west' er n,east' er n.
o, u处于词末时分别读/?u/,/ju:/ （即不弱化，按重读音节规则读 ）。
如口 car'g o, Ne'gr o ； men' u .
u 在多音节词中，紧邻重读音节时，读 /ju/ （即轻度弱化）。如reg' ular,pop' u lar,mo n' u me nt.
