加强会计道德建设的目标，是为了促进会计人员不断追求崇高的会计道德观念，达到更高的会计道德境界，塑造出高尚的会计道德品质，从而在从事会计工作的时候，廉洁奉公、忠于职守、勤俭理财、全心全意为人民服务。具体来说，加强会计职业道德建设的意义主要体现在：加强会计职业道德建设，是培养会计行业“四有”新人的重要措施，是提高会计人员职业道德水平的有效手段，有利于反腐倡廉，进而有助于形成全社会的廉洁之风。
会计工作处于各单位经济管理工作的前沿，会计人员身处财经的关键地位，在一些不健康的消极环境影响下，其价值观念不可避免地受到影响，出现这样那样的问题。所以，会计推崇职业道德，是现代人本管理和行为科学的必然发展与要求。在大力发展社会主义市场经济时，加强与之相适应、相配套的会计人员职业道德机制建设显得尤为重要，亦相当迫切。
