有学者指出，青少年的偶像崇拜一般始于12岁，并在14—16岁达到峰值，此后随着年龄的增加而呈现下降趋势。[ 岳晓东.《我是你的粉丝》[M].上海：上海人民出版社，2007年版：第224页.]从我们选择的对象来看，初中生正处于形成偶像崇拜的开始阶段，而高中生正处在偶像崇拜这一抛物线的制高点。这一时期的青少年正处于青春期的“自我中心状态”，会因对自我缺乏清醒的批判认识，而沉湎于对偶像热烈的梦幻与疯狂的追逐之中。然而，随着年龄的不断增长，知识的逐渐充盈，青少年的批判思维能力、抽象概括能力都会得到相应提高，社会认知也会经历一个从简单到复杂，从表面感知到本质判断的发展过程，从而，在峰值过后进入到偶像崇拜的淡化阶段。所以说，处于大学时期的青少年无论是在年龄、知识结构，还是心智上都要比初、高中生更为成熟，他们追逐偶像的方式自然也更为理性。
