随着经社会的发展，济企业的管理日趋科学化、现代化，会计电算化专业人才在经济管理中的作用日益突出，社会对财务人员的素质要求越来越高。目前全国有一百万以上的人从事会计工作近年来会计行业的一个新变化是，会计人员不仅要懂传统的手工会计工作方式，适应现代计算机技术在企业管理工作中的应用，现代企业的会计人员更要熟悉会计电算化的操作。即对掌握电脑技术的比较高级的会计人员的需求增加很大，而对以前只会记账的簿记员和低级会计人员的需求量逐渐减少。原因是由于电脑日新月异的发展与会计专业许多个软件的日益完善，使得初级的计账、会计工作更加简单易行。人企业和小企业从此不再需要雇用簿记人员。这为会计电算化专业的开设提供了新的契机。
