三、要具有适合从事司法警察工作的优秀思想和品质
司法警察与业务部门的检察官及检察书记员都一样，所面对的是实施了危害社会行为的犯罪嫌疑人或者被告人，是社会中的丑恶现象，司法警察与犯罪嫌疑人或者罪犯一直是或明或暗地存在着执行与反执行、矫正与反矫正的斗争，这种斗争是不依人的意志为转移的，处于这场斗争前沿的司法警察，必须具有适合从事法警工作的优秀思想和品质，能够抵御各种不良思想和行为的侵袭，以自己的实际行动教育和感化犯罪嫌疑人、被告人或者罪犯，使他们迷途知返，做社会生活中的守法公民。
在我国警察法中，对警察的义务和纪律作了专门规定，这是国家对警察的思想和品质的原则性要求，对所有的警察包括司法警察、监狱警察都是适用的。检察人员办案纪律中的《中央政法委四条禁令》、《最高人民检察院九条硬性规定》，在这些规定中非常明确了检察人员在办案中的禁止性行为，司法警察是检察机关的法定成员，当然必须严格遵守这些规定，这就是司法警察的行为规范，或者说，这就是司法警察在参与刑事诉讼活动中应当具备的品质。
