Abstract As an important organic chemical intermediate, ethylene glycol is widely used. In this paper, the application of
ethylene glycol in industry is introduced. The process of preparing ethylene glycol from ethanolaldehyde is reviewed,
including formylation and hydrogenation of formaldehyde, cellulose pyrolysis and formaldehyde condensation. It is pointed
