一、科技英语的概念
英语是目前国际上的主要科技语言。为了提高科技专业人才的英语交际水平及非科技人员的科技英语理解水平,20世纪60年代至70年代,特殊用途英语(English for Special Purposes,缩写为ESP)作为一门研究英语语言的学科开始兴起并很快成为了一种普遍趋势。
ESP:
学术英语(English for Academic Purposes,EAP)
职业英语(English for Occupational Proposes, EOP)
科技英语(English for Scientific purpose,ESP)。
⑴学术英语(EAP)
学术英语主要应用于以英语为交流语言的学术场合,使用者多数是在英国、美国或其它英语国家的留学人员、研究人员或访问学者。例如:
