The most selfish one-letter word is “I”. Avoid it.

(1)增译法 addition
根据译出语的思维方式、语言习惯和表达方式,译文中需增添一些原文中没有的词、短语或句子,以方便准确表达出原文意义。
例如:
What about having dinner with us next Saturday?

(2)省译法omission
与增译法相反,省译法要求在译文中删去不符合译出语思维习惯、语言习惯和表达方式的词、短语或句子,以避免译文累赘。
例如:
I hope you will have a good time here.
Smoking is prohibited in public places.

(3)转换法conversion
根据译出语的思维方式、语言习惯和表达方式,译文对原句中的词类、句型和语态等进行转换。

(4)拆句法和合并法splitting and mixing
拆句法是把一个长而复杂的句子拆译为若干较短较简单的句子,通常用于英译汉;合并法是把若干短句合并为长句,通常用于汉译英。
例如:

I wish to thank you for the parable hospitality for which the Chinese people are justly famous throughout the world.
