The Roman Catholic Church
The Roman Catholic Church plays an important role in Irish culture and people’s life.
We can through the following aspects to know about it.
Before 1970s,the influences of the Roman Catholic Church mainly displays in two aspects.
Women’s life: Irish Catholicism concentrated on what it saw as matters of sexual purity,having sex before marriage was condemned and the contraception and abortion was banned.
So many Irish women had many more children than they wished to have or could addord. Sometimes,the heath and even the lifes of themselves,might be put at risk for the sake of this principle.
Social life:In Ireland,The Roman Catholic Church exercised a firm hold over education structures,over hospitals,over the media,and over the way people thought about thenselves and their lifes.
Since 1970s,The Roman Catholic Church has been weakened
In 1995,the referendum weakened the Catholic church greatly,people voted for the provision of divorce.
Irish people saw that other European countries still be “Roman Catholic”in ethos without being subjuct to the dictates of the Ireland joined the EU,many of the Irish lows were challenged by the EU court and found to be lacking.

Before 1970:
Traditionally,Irish familities were large,with up to sixteen or more children.
Farm familities often regarded children as a guarantee of an adequate labour supply,but children are also valued very much and generally given a warm e. Children born outside of marriage were regarded as a matter of shame,many were given up for adoption.
Since the early 1980:
Now about a third of all children are born to single mothers,having a children outside marriage is no longer considered a
