ABSTRACT
This paper presents an overview of Indonesia’s rapid economic development, by focusing on
the changing patterns of trade and industrial structure, the changing trade and industrial
policies, and the process of industrial upgrading. It analyzes the process of industrialization,
including the policy deficits and challenges, and discusses the strategy to facilitate further
industrial upgrading in future.
