Chinese pop singer faces jail over drunk driving Gao Xiaosong, a Chinese pop songwriter, appears in a criminal trial as the defendant in the Dongcheng district court in Beijing on May 17, 2011. Gao was caught drunk driving recently, causing injuries to three people in a four-car pileup(连环相撞) in downtown Dongzhimen on May 9. He was banned from driving for five years and fined 1,000 yuan for having an expired license.

An amendment to the Road Traffic Safety Law
Drunk drivers will face harsher punishments in China, including a life ban from driving. On February 25, 2011, the mittee of the National People's Congress has approved an amendment to the Road Traffic Safety Law, aiming to make the country's roads safer. It has took effect on May 1st.
