Now, we have learned something about Amber Room and we know that the one that we now can see is a rebuilt one. Till today, many people are haunting for the lost one, which is now still a mystery. Where is it now? How did it disappear? Is there anyone know the mystery? Is there any eyewitnesses? Today we will read a man’s story about what happened to the Amber Room, and find if the story is a fact or just an opinion. Before doing this, we should know what a fact is and what an opinion is.
What is a fact?
A fact is anything that can be proved.
What is an opinion?
An opinion is what someone believes is true but has not been proved.
Now judge whether the sentences on the slide are facts or opinions.
Mr. Jones has two sons and one daughter.
2. Her house is really beautiful.
3. My friend has six fingers on one hand.
4. That boy is the nicest person in the school.
Let’s read the man’s story about what happened to the Amber Room quickly. And according to what you have learned about a fact and an opinion decide what the story is and give your reason, using the structure:
I think it is a(an)________ because________.
Hello, I’m Jan Hasek, an old miner from the Czech Republic. In April 1945 I heard something explode at midnight. I got up and ran outside. The sound came from a mine that hadn’t been used for a long time. Suddenly I saw some German soldiers by the light of the moon. They were taking wooden boxes from trucks and putting them in the mine.
A week later I decided to go and see for myself. To my surprise the entrance to the mine was closed. Some people say that the Amber Room and some gold were buried in the mine. I think it might be so, as the Amber Room has never been found.
Of course, it is an opinion .
Because information given by Jan Hasek was heard from others. What’s more, the sentence in the second paragraph “I think it might be so “.表明他也不是很确信,因此这是一种意见不是事实。
