Rhetoric: the art of using language effectively, which involves the writer’s purpose, the audience, the discovery and exploration of a subject, the arrangement anization of ideas, the style and tone in which they are expressed, and the form in which they are delivered.
Rhetorical situation: bination of author, exigence, purpose, audience, and context.
Purpose: your reason for writing.
Audience: who will read your writing.
Ethos/pathos/logos:
Ethos: the demonstration of the writer’s trustworthy character, good intentions, and substantial knowledge of a subject, also called ethical appeal.
Pathos: the use of language to stir the feelings of an audience, also called an emotional appeal or a pathetic appeal.
Logos: the use of language to show clear reasoning, also called a logical appeal.
Types of evidence: there are three types of evidence: logical, historical, and personal.
Parts of speech: the classes into which words may be grouped according to their forms and grammatical relationships
nouns/pronouns/verbs/adjectives/adverbs/prepositions/conjunctions/interjections/articles
Personal essay:
Tone: the author’s attitude toward the subject and the audience, usually conveyed through word choice and sentence structure.
Transition: words, phrases, sentences, or paragraphs that relate ideas by linking sentences, paragraphs, or larger segment of writing.
