1)作主语(谓语单数):Drinking more water is good for people.
2)作宾语:admit承认appreciate欣赏,plete ,consider,delay耽误deny 否认enjoy,prevent阻止finish,imagine,mind ,miss,postpone推迟practise, risk冒险suggest,face,include,ive宽恕keep,allow,advise。

词组+doing: prefer…to ,be used to,devote oneself to,stick to,be busy,look forward to,be worth…,can't help,It's no use /good,be tired of,be fond of,be afraid of,be proud of,think of / about,put off,keep on,insist on,eed in,be good at,take up,give up,keep/stop/prevent …(from)+ving,pay attention to..,make a contribution to,end up+ving
3)作表语:表示****惯 Her job is washing,cleaning and taking care of the children.
4)作宾补:感官动词see,watch,observe,notice,look at,hear,listen to,feel sb+ do(动作完整性)/doing (动作的进行性). I often hear her sing after class. I hear her singing now.
5)作定语:前置表示用途或正在进行,短语时后置 We can see the rising sun.

6)做状语:表示时间,原因,结果,伴随,方式,条件等。有时ving前可以加when,。
