Family: She was the only serviving child of King Henry VIII of England and his first wife Catherine of Aragon . Her mother had many abortions before Mary's birth, four previous pregnancies had resulted in a stillborn(早夭) daughter and three short-lived or stillborn sons.

In September 1554, Mary stopped menstruating. She gained weight, and felt nauseous in the morning. Virtually the whole court, including her doctors, thought she was pregnant.
Mary continued to exhibit signs of pregnancy until July 1555, when her abdomen(腹部) receded. There was no baby. Michieli dismissively ridiculed the pregnancy as more likely to "end in wind rather than anything else".It was most likely a false pregnancy, perhaps induced by Mary's overwhelming desire to have a child.
