Abstract. The paper proposes an application-centric approach for document lifecycle management in CAE systems. The CAE-specific lifecycle policies are based on document classification and consider criteria like events, business purpose, position in the business process workflow, document type, security aspects, and time-based characteristics in order to assign the documents to different layers of a multi-layer storage system and fulfil the current lifecycle requirements. The specified criteria and policies are the basis for the development of procedures and practices for automated policy management.
