Michael Welzenbach(1954-2001)was an art critic as well as a poet and a novelist. He wrote some of the most stimulating criticism of art and music for the Washington Post.

About the story
THE story is a about a friendship BETWEEN two souls who are “seemingly different” in every way: one is an American boy of twelve and the other is an old English woman.
When the author was 12 years old, his family moved to England. They rented an 18th-century farmhouse in Berkshire .Nearby were ancient castles and churches. And he spend most his time roaming the woods and fields alone. After 6 months in England, old farmer Crawford gave him permission to roam about his immense property .And this is the beginning of the story.
One spring afternoon the author wandered near a pond. He proceeded and nearly ran into a frail lady. AND then the old lady spoke to him. What interested the author is what the woman said about the owls.
After introducing to each other, The author decided to pay a visit to Mrs Robertson-Glasgow’s house and was astonished by the things in the cottage. Then they talked a lot…..
The author went to see her every weekend. AND during the summer he spend blissfully long days with the old lady. He discovered she made the finest shortbread in the world. They explore Brea Wood together, discussing the books….
AS time went by, the author did not notice she was growing frailer and less inclined to laugh. And one day when he went downstairs to kitchen ,there wad a familiar-looking biscuit tin on the table .His mother regarded him with a strange gentleness. And from the tone of her voice the author knew everything. Mrs. Robertson-Glasgow died…
