希区柯克在生前就被公认为有史以来最伟大的电影导演,一生导演过59部影片,300多部电视系列剧,绝大多数以人的紧张、焦虑、窥探、恐惧等为叙事主题。他从未获得过奥斯卡最佳导演奖,虽然曾经获5次提名。1968年4月,希区柯克获得美国电影艺术与科学学院颁发的“欧文·撒尔伯格纪念奖”。同年获美国导演协会格里菲斯奖。
1979年 3月,希区柯克被美国电影艺术学院授予Life Achievement Award。
1980年 1月1日,英国女王伊丽莎白二世授予希区柯克“爵士”封号。
