【Abstract】 AIM: To explore the feasibility of fixing the segment of C2 and C3 with anterior cervical platescrew system. METHODS: The superior inclination of the posterior edge of the anteroinferior lip (AIL) on sagittal plane (α),the inclination formed by the anterior edge and posterior edge of AIL on sagittal plane (β), the inclination formed by the two lateral boundary lines of the anteriorprotruded portion (APP) on coronal plane (γ), the height and width of AIL (HAIL and WAIL), the widest distance of APP (WMAX) and the vertical distance between WMAX line and the inferior point of AIL (HMAX) of 57 Chinese C2 vertebrae’s anterior column were measured using AutoCAD2000 software. RESULTS: It was found that α=42±8(26-58)°,β=69±10(49-89)°,γ=89±12(65-113)°, HAIL =± (-)mm, WAIL=± (-)mm, WMAX=± (-) mm, and HMAX=± (-) mm. WAIL was less than 8mm in % of the samples. CONCLUSION: The widest part of the anterior column of C2 vertebra is below the horizontal plane of inferior end plate, which makes the widest region unsuitable for screw insertion of anterior plate system unless the screws direct upwards and medially. If the entrance point of screw moves upwards, it will run the risk of inserting into the concave region of the anterior column. Because of the individ
