It has been over four years since I have started my thesis entitled “Corporate value
Creation, Governance and Privatisation: Restructuring and managing enterprises in
transition”. During this period, many people have contributed to the ess of this
dissertation.
I would like to thank NUFFIC for financing this research under the collaboration
of MHO-CBE program and the authorities of the University of Asmara for providing me
the opportunity of continuing a doctoral study. I wish to express my gratitude to my
promotor, Prof. dr. Jos van der Werf, for the advice that he provided me throughout the
study period, in particular the biweekly discussions that we had during my stay at the
University of Groningen. These discussions helped me to acquire in depth knowledge of
the subject matter and of the research methodology. I want to acknowledge the help that I
have received from my co-promotor, Dr. Henk von Eije, for the first push in conducting
research and for the first push in cycling. His office door was always open for me and his
relentless effort contributed to the ess of this project. I would also like to thank the
