Generalized anxietf disorder (GAD) is a chronic, pervasive disorder associated with significant impairment in functioning. ~7~ile
cognitive-behavioral interventions appear to be relativel~ efficacious in reducing GAD s}'mptoms, the proportion of treated individu-
als who reach desi,fd levels of end-state functioning is less than ideal. A number of recent theoretical and empirical advances in the
field have led to the development of novel, experimental treatmems for GAD. The current paper desofbes the integration of acceptance
a,M mindfulness teehniques into an existing cog~itive-behavioral group treatment for GAD. Data from 4 clients suggest that filrther
refinement of acceptance and mindJ}dness methods ma~;facilitate improvement in the quality oJlife and ps~chosocialfunctioning of
individuals diagnosed with GAD.
