【Abstract】 AIM: To analyze dynamically the changes of CD8+T cells and dendritic cells (DC) in sentinel lymph node (SLN) in breast cancer. METHODS: A total of 82 SLN, from 31 breast cancer patients undergoing the SLN biopsy from April 2001 to June 2003, were examined in the study. Of the 31 patients, 12 had micrometastasis in SLN observed through the detection of CK19 mAb, 9 were proved of nonmetastasis in SLN and the other 10 had metastasis found by HE staining. With SABC immunohistochemistry for CD8 mAb and S100 polyclonal antibody, we got the ratios of positive cell numbers to total lymphocyte number in 5 highpower fields and counted their average. RESULTS: Among the 82 SLN, nonmetastasis was found in 35 SLN, micrometastasis in 20 SLN, and metastasis in 27. The average ratios of CD8+T cells and S100+ DC to total lymphocyte were different significantly among the 3 groups (P<). CONCLUSION: Tumor metastasis in SLN in breast cancer, even micrometastasis, would lead to the notable decrease of CD8+ T cells, while it would not result in the obvious change of DC number, except that the remarkable metastasis would reduce the DC.
