Abstract

The translator is the most active element in the translation process. In recent
years, much importance is attached to the study of translator‟s subjectivity with the
advent of Cultural Turn in translation studies. Translator‟s motivation, his/her decision
on translation strategy and his/her translation ability will all affect the translated text
and the achievement of his or her translation purpose. As for literary translation,
manifestations of translator‟s subjectivity are not only of great significance to the
translated text but also to the introduction of the source culture to the target reader.
This thesis will lay focus on the translator‟s subjectivity by examining cultural
image translation. To achieve the goal, the thesis will explore the nature and process
of literary translation. Specifically speaking, the present study will
