Abstract: Polyimide uniform fibers with diameters below 100 nm are desired for many applications. A
method to prepare bead-free ultrafine polyimide fibers by electro-spinning is present in this paper.
Effects of the surface tension and electrical conductivity of the polymer solutions on fiber morphology
were investigated. Increasing the conductivity by anic salt of CTAB favored thinner beads
and decrease of the percentage of beads volume. The fiber diameters dropped slightly when about 10
wt% of THF was added in the solution, whereas the diameters increased obviously when more THF
was added. The addition of 10 wt% of THF apparently enhanced the effect of CTAB to form thinner
beads and uniform fibers. Bead-free PMDA-ODA polyimide uniform fibers with diameters of
61±15nm were prepared essfully.

0 Introduction
With superior thermal and chemical resistance as well as mechanical properties,
polyimides fibers and fabrics are of potential use to numerous applications [1]. Through the
conventional wet spinning process, fibers with a few microns in diameter can be prepared.
Nevertheless, fibers with diameters b
