Practical .NET Projects is a collection of projects built using the .NET Projects
.NET Framework. This book came about because I am a huge fan of gadgets. I
have a massive collection of cool devices such as Pocket PCs, Bluetooth adapters, Practical
GPS receivers, fingerprint readers, infrared adapters, ultrasonic sensors, RFID
readers, and so on. Although I think the devices are great, my main frustration is
that their uses are often limited by the supplied software.

For example, I can use my Microsoft Fingerprint Reader to log in to Windows
Programming Sudoku and remember my website passwords, but what about extending it to play a role
XML Programming Using in user authentication for my own projects? What about webcams? Can I use
the Microsoft XML Parser them for capturing images for display within my own applications? Can it be .NET
done? How can I do it? It was this desire to make these devices work the way I
wanted that caused me to roll up my sleeves and explore the various ways to
coax them to work for me using the .NET Framework.
Within the chapters of this book I work through a range of projects suitable
for home and works-sockets programming, munication,
integrating fingerprint readers, munication, radio frequency
identification (RFID) tracking, and interfacing with external devices such working
sensors and webcams.
Although some of the projects will work with .NET , you really need to
make the most of them. In addition, some projects also run on Pocket PC
devices (in particular the Windows Mobile platform), so having one of these
devices or one of the free emulators on hand is advantageous.
