摘要:本文希望借鉴经济社会学中研讨“文化与经济”的理论成果,反思中国在
发展现代工业资本主义过程中的社会后果和文化遭遇。本文主要分四个部分:第
一部分就“文化与经济”方面的三个主要理论流派进行简要的评述;第二部分着
重分析厘清韦伯命题及其引发的争论;第三部分探讨近代中国面对不请自来的现
代资本主义所采取的文化妥协和调整;第四部分试图表明文化缺席的经济发展难
以持续,经济至上导致的负面影响反过来要求重建文化约束。当代中国经济发展
的经验表明,忽略文化价值和社会文化规范可能让经济短期内快速起飞,但是人
性的回归和对社会利益的关注,最终引发人们重新审视经济至上的恶果,要求建
立符合文化价值的经济模式。

Reflections of Economic Development in China by the Lens of Culture and the
Economy: the WeberThesis and its Inspirations

Abstract: This paper aims to review critically social consequences and cultural
es of the development of modern industrial capitalism in China based on the
insights from theoretical debates on culture and the economy. The paper is divided
into four sections: the first part summarizes and reviews briefly three major steams of
study in the field culture and the economy; the second concerns about the Weber
thesis and related critiques; the third turns to China’s reaction to imported modern
capitalism, especially various efforts of promise and adjustment to justify
and facilitate development of capitalism; the fourth attempts to show that economic
development at the expense of culture will not sustain and the negative effects of
economy beyond control remind people the importance of reconstructing cultural
