This draft copy is being submitted
for evaluation of print quality and iden-
ti5cation of any other issues-please
do not use for 5nal publication!! It
posed as follows:
1. Written using Scienti5c WorkPlace V5 (this produces Latex output and then a dvi
5le), Scienti5c WorkPlace web site is at /
2. A ‘Style File’ 5le was created using Style Editor in Scienti5c WorkPlace1this 5le
has been continuously revised to improve the appearance (., margins, headers, location
of page numbers, etc.).
3. The dvi 5le created by Latex was then printed to a postscript 5le using AdobePS
generic postscript driver on Windows 2000 operating system.
4. AdobePS was tweaked as suggested in the website
.il/~herzbea/ which stated following for maximizing qual-
ity of output:
“After you install the printer, you may want to 5ne-tune its properties. To do so, open
again the Printers setting folder, and right click on the printer1select ‘Properties‘. Under
‘Device Settings‘, set very low values (. 5) to the following two parameters:
Minimum font size to download as outline
Maximum font size to download as bitmap
Next, go to the ‘Advanced‘ tab, and from there, select ‘Printing Defaults. . . ‘. In the
window that opens, select ‘Document options‘, then ‘Postscript options‘. Set the following
two options:
PostScript Output Option: Optimize for Portability
TrueType Font Download Option: Outline”
Note: the above suggestions were for MS Imagesetter driver, but this driver failed to
print some 5gures properly so the AdobePS was substituted instead and works much better.
5. The postscript 5le can be read with no dif5culties using GhostScript on my
Pentium IV running Windows 2000 and gives good quality printed output from Ghostscript
on my HP Laserjet 6MP postscript printer (600dpi).
