Introduction
The ICS software radio blade products are designed to offer plete receive and / or transmit
solution in one circuit card assembly. bine acquisition and processing bining
ICS-554, ICS-564 or ICS-572 PMC module with a FPGA or processor-based DSP function in a
common carrier card. Currently, ICS offers a wide variety of blade products for both VME and PCI
bus architectures. Comprehensive software device drivers and application routines support the
blade products for Windows, VxWorks, Linux and Solaris operating systems. For more

PCI Software Radio Xilinx FPGA Blade
The PCI software radio FPGA blade product (Blade-PCI-5xx-Fz) offers a large Xilinx FPGA (3-8
million gate) device for user configuration plex processing functions. ICS has recently
delivered a wideband SIGINT system for real-time detection of radio signals by directly
processing a spectral band as wide as 40 MHz.
System Architecture
Figure1 shows a simplified block diagram of the particular PCI software radio Xilinx FPGA blade
configuration used. The ICS-554B-1-MN includes one ADC channel, 16 programmable tuners
and a 1 million gate Xilinx FPGA. The on-board FPGA is configured to pass raw ADC data to the
Xilinx FPGA module and 16 tuner data to the PCI bus for processing by the puter. The
ADC data is transferred directly to the Xilinx FPGA module via the Pn4 connector at 200
MBytes/s rate (corresponding to 100 MHz sample rate).
