Preface
The research related to this thesis was carried out in the Laboratory of Electromechanics,
Helsinki University of Technology. This study is a part of the long-term project to couple
the finite element code of the laboratory (FCSMEK) with a system simulator. The work was
financed by the National Technology Agency of Finland (Tekes), ABB Oy, Fortum Power and
Heat Oy and
