Background
J9 directorate of Joint mand established the Sentient World Simulation
mittee to:
. Develop a definition of SWS at DoD.
. Create a vision for DoD's SWS initiative.
. mend specific steps to essfully bring the vision to fruition.
. Develop funding and assessment strategies.
Visions of the Future
Sentient World Simulation (SWS) is a continuously running, continually updated mirror
model of the real world that can be used to predict and evaluate future events and courses
of action. SWS reacts to actual events that occur anywhere in the world and incorporates
newly sensed data from the real world. SWS provides the ability to examine the likely
progression of the status-quo as well as explore any “what if” scenarios. SWS will:
. Accelerate the creation, distillation, dissemination, and utilization of new
science, technologies, processes, systems, algorithms, and protocols;
. Foster a anization for rapid development and transitioning of SWS
to government, academia, and the private sector;
. Develop state-of-the-putational and experimental infrastructure to
support SWS;
. Create a vibrant SWS special interest group to constantly develop, test, and
validate models, data, and emergent behaviors to improve the fidelity and
reliability of SWS; and
. Improve our ability to predict and evaluate the effects of events and courses of
actions across the entire geo-political spectrum and not just the ic battlefield
simulation, . can we win the peace as well as the war?
