【Abstract】 AIM: To define the surface characteristics of porcine valvular tissue and tissueengineering bioprostheses material treated with epoxy chloropropan so as to elucidate the mechanism involved in the mitigation. METHODS: The surface characteristics of porcine valvular tissue and acellular tissueengineering bioprostheses material treated with epoxy chloropropan were evaluated by measuring the plasma protein adsorption and platelet adhesion in vitro. Fresh porcine valves and porcine valves treated with glutaraldehyde were tested as control. RESULTS: Porcine valvular tissue treated with epoxy chloropropan showed lower plasma protein adsorption [(±) g/kg vs (±) g/kg, P<) and platelet adhesion (±) ×1012/kg vs (±)×1012/kg, P<] in vitro pared to those of control. Acellular porcine valve demonstrated lower plasma protein adsorption [(±) g/kg vs (±) g/kg, P<] and platelet adhesion [(±) ×1012/kg vs (±)×1012/kg, P<] in vitro pared to those of fresh porcine valve. Epoxy chloropropan treatment further reduced the plasma protein ad
sorption [(±) g/kg vs (±) g/kg, P<] and platelet adhesion [(±) ×1012/kg vs (±)×1012/kg, P<]. CONCLUSION: Porcine valvular tissue and acellular tissueeng
