In the three years of my graduate study, I received much help and encouragement
from my teachers, friends and classmates.
I am greatly indebted to Associate Professor Ning Mei, my supervisor, who
guided me into the field of literature, especially poetic appreciation. In the process of
my thesis writing, she had copied research materials from Nanjing University for me;
she has also given me invaluable suggestions, strict guidance and persistent
encouragements all the time. Her strict and constructive criticism of my earlier drafts
makes a great influence on the current thesis. Furthermore, Associate Professor Ning’s
painstaking efforts in correcting and revising the manuscript have greatly contributed to
the plishment of the present thesis.
