Emile is a philosophical romance with three
chief characters-Emile, Sophy, and Jean
Jacques himself who moves to and fro
realising and explaining his character in every
page. It is written with the enthusiasm and the

axiom it contains upon the strings of his own y
heart; and its purpose is to arouse and defend
the susceptibility of the child who could grow
such a man by all the forces of education
