Begin in 1957,when Juli was in Grade 2 in a primary school
Bryce’s family moved to a house in the same neighborhood as Juli’s family and Bryce became Juli’s classmate.

Juli wants to make friends with Bryce, but Bryce tries to get rid of her by all means.

Juli has two special interests : climbing trees and raising chicken. But Bryce thinks it is silly and ridiculous.

Juli invited Bryce to sit on the sycamore tree with her to enjoy the scenery , but he refused and laughed at her.

Juli sent eggs to Bryce’s family .But Bryce’s father suspected there is salmonella(沙门氏菌) in the eggs because they think Juli’s yard is dirty. So Bruce threw all of them secretly . When Juli knew it ,she was sad and angry.

After talking with his grandpa , Bryce began to think carefully .He began to be affected by the sweet and warm atmosphere in Juli’s family and finally come to realize that Juli is so different, so independent and be enthusiastic about everything. And he flipped.
