What are point sources of water contamination?
Wastes that are collected in pipes or channels and discharged to a surface water with or without treatment
Sources:
Municipal sewage or wastewater
Industrial waste waters
What are nonpoint sources?
Storm water run-off discharged at multiple points
Varies substantially with use of the land the run-off originates from
Agricultural

Suburban

What is Eutrophication?
Defined as the accelerated fertilization of lakes, reservoirs, streams, and estuaries arising from pollution associated with:
Population growth
Industrial development
Intensified agriculture
