Mould box construction.

Suitable mould boxes for the hobby foundry can be constructed from timber or
steel.

The mould box project described here, deals with constructing the cope & drag
mould boxes from light mild steel.
The size of the mould box is 9 X 10 “(250 X 30mm).
Mould boxes can be made to suit any size of castings you will be making, the size
above will suit the hobby foundry worker while learning the art of metal casting.
The equipment required should be found in most home workshops, if not, you might
have to borrow some of the tools from a friend who has.

Tools Required.
Bench vice.
Ball peen, or engineers hammer.
Hacksaw.
Arc or MIG welder.
90 Deg corner angle clamps, at least two.
4 “ Angle grinder.
Bench drill, or hand held power drill.
Oxy welding set with small welding tip. (Used to heat 5/16” MS rod)
And of course the skills required to operate the above-mentioned tools.

Materials Required.
4 X 10 X 3 X 3/16” flat mild steel plate.
4 X 9 X 3 3/16” flat mild steel plate.
16” X 5/16” mild steel rod.
8 X 11/2” X 3/16” flat steel.
40” X ¼” mild steel rod.
8” X 3/8” mild steel rod.
