Work on “Children’s Thinking Activity 1: Children Solving Multiplication Word Problems” handout (from the Class Notes packet)
Problem solving: problems 24, 26, 31, 32, 35 on page 182 of the green book. Each group gets one problem to solve and presents the solution to the class.
Homework:
Finish “Children’s Thinking Activity” from class.
Journal questions (you will have to read the book to answer these questions; you may want to read the entire Section or just skim through it):
What are the different contexts for multiplication? Which ones have you encountered before? Which one(s) do you think of when you think of multiplication?
Is multiplication distributive over addition? Is addition distributive over multiplication? Explain.
What has been the hardest thing about this class so far? This could be either a math concept, an aspect of the class or something else.
