Rayleigh scattering in the transmission fiber will degrade the noise performance of fiber Raman amplifiers . In this paper, we derived an analytical expression for the equivalent noise figure in a distributed fiber Raman amplifier, considering the impact of Rayleigh scattering in the transmission fiber. This analytical expression is used to analyze the impact of Rayleigh scattering on the noise performance of a distributed fiber Raman amplifier and educe the rule of pump power selection . An analytical noise figure expression for backward - pumped distributed fiber Raman amplifiers(BRFA) is derived, taking the influence of fiber Rayleigh scattering int o account. The result agrees well with numerical simulation and experimantal data, and can be applied to pump power selection in BRFAs aiming at lowest noise figures.
