Upon the conclusion of this thesis I wish to express my appreciation to the faculty of
College of Foreign Languages, to whom I owe much of my knowledge in the English
language, linguistics, translation, and especially in literature, and from whom I have
repeatedly met with kindness and support during the past three years.
My heartfelt gratitude goes to my supervisor, Professor He Jiangsheng, for his
enlightening instructions and unfailing patience through the whole process. He guided
me into the study of this fabulous literature field, provided me with valuable first-hand
