born in England in 1869.
emigrated to Canada in 1876 with his family.
studied modern and classical languages and earned his bachelor’s degree in the University of Toronto in 1891.
taught high school but did not quite like the job.
started graduate studies at the university of Chicago in 1899. received a doctorate in political science and political economy, in 1903 and went back to Canada to teach at the Mc
