Review Chapter 14 Wedding Vocabulary
Part A: Way to SpeakDialogue 2
A: Haven’t you finished those illustrations, Xiao Wang?
B: Not yet. There’s one left, about the Rose parade. To be frank, I know very little about it.
A: Oh, the Rose Parade? It’s a famous New Year’s Day parade in America.
B: Could you please tell me about it?
A: Well, to celebrate the first day of the year, people drive floats elaborately decorated with flowers and plants material through Pasadena, California. So it’s called the “ROSE PARADE”. Later that day, in the same city, there is a college football gamed called the “Rose Bowl” game.
B: Thanks, Alex. You are really a great help to me.
Part A: Way to SpeakDialogue 4
A: Good God! Have you read today’s newspaper, Mom?
B: Yes, I read it just now. What’s happened?
A: A new-born baby in our city was found to be infected with the AIDS virus!
B: But what does AIDS mean?
A: Uh … it’s the abbreviation for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome of the human body.
B: Oh, I just know the name from TV.
A: It’s called “supercancer” as well, because this is a disease very difficult to cure. No physician has found any effective cure for it.
B: God! That poor baby!
