Rosa series of crime novels set in the era of Cicero
and Caesar. About the latest book in the scries,

commented, 'Saylor evokes the ancient world
more convincingly than any other writer of his
generation' and Publishers Weekly has called it
a 'superb historical novel.'
KATE GILLIVER studied Classics and Classical
Archaeology at King's College London and took
her PhD in Roman Military Theory at The Institute
of Archaeology, University College London. She
is lecturer in Ancient History at Cardiff University
and is the author of The Roman Art of War (1999).
She is currently preparing a book on Roman siege
warfare and was the historical consultant for a
BBC Timewatch programme on Roman soldiers.
ADRIAN GOLDSWORTHY read Ancient and
Modern History at St John's College, Oxford,
remaining there to gain his doctorate in Ancient
History. This thesis formed the basis for his first
book, The Roman Army at War 100 BC-AD 200
(OUP, 1996). His research has focused on aspects
of warfare in the Graeco-Roman world and he
has written two further books: Roman Warfare
(Cassell, 2000) and The Punic Wars (Cassell, 2000).
MICHAEL WHITBY is Professor of Classics and
Ancient History at Warwick. In recent years he has
published several articles on late Roman warfare,
and co-edited The Cambridge Ancient History XIV;
AD 425-600 (2000), The Cambridge History of
Ancient Warfare (2005) and Christian Persecution,
Martyrdom and Orthodoxy (2006). He is currently
working on a study of Warfare and Society in the
later Roman world.
