Abstract-A new adsorbent was developed from municipal various water-treatment technique described above,
sewage sludge (SS) combined with 5–20% pyrolusite of the adsorption is generally preferred for the removal of
weight of SS carbon, and using ZnCl2 as chemical activation heavy metal ions due to its high efficiency, easy
reagent. Characterized by N2-BET methods and SEM, the handing, availability of different adsorbents and cost
result showed that the surface area of the new adsorbent was effectiveness. However, high cost of activated carbon
increased to m2/pared with that of the unmi- adsorption restricted its wide applications, so
xed sludge activated carbon m2/gand total pore and development of new adsorption material with low
micropore volume were increased. The effect of various cost is the future research emphases of heavy metal
parameters on adsorption process including contact time, wastewater sludge, a kind of
solution pH, amount of adsorbent and initial concentration effective biological treatment meth
