Abstract—South Taihu Lake used to get less attention in terms of Potential high level of heavy metal concentration in fish may
environmental pollution study in the past. Sediment and fish pose risk to human health. In this study, sediment and fish
samples were collected from South Taihu Lake in 2009. Heavy samples were collected from Taihu Lake and heavy metal
metals were measured for both types of samples and potential level were detected. The results obtained will provide
health risks were evaluated. Concentration of Cu, Zn, Cr and information for the heay metal risk analysis of Taihu Lake.
Ni were determined for sediments samples, and Cu, Zn, Ni, Fe
and Mn were determined for fish samples. It was found that the II. MATERIALS AND METHODS
metal levels in sediment were lower than the limits proposed by
China National Environmental Quality Standard for Soils (GB Sampling
15618-95), but higher than the sediment
