Abstract — Microcystins (MCs) are naturally occurring enzymes and to induce oxidative stress in anisms
hepatotoxic cyclic heptapeptides produced by some toxic leading to cell damage [2, 6-7].
freshwater cyanobacterial species. In the study, the effects of Exposure to cyanobacterial biomass and/or purified MCs
MCs on the growth and the activities of antioxidant enzymes were had been shown to cause oxidative stress in anisms
investigated in Chinese cabbage and rape grown under different [8]. Oxidative stress may occur either due to the decrease of
MCs concentration (equivalent to 0, , , , , and cellular antioxidant level or to the overproduction of reactive
4 mg MC-LR L-1) conditions for 7 days. The results showed that
exposure to MCs inhibited the growth and development of both oxygen species (ROS) [9]. These ROS are
