STANDARD CARE LABELS Revised MAY 2008 2 S6-AUSTIN STANDARD CARE LABELS – REVISED JULY 2006 AUSTIN GROUP LIMITED REQUIREMENTS FOR CARE LABELS The care labelling standard requires the care inst ructions to be adequa te and appropriate for the article. Overly cautious instructions such as “Dry clean only” on a garment that can be safely washed contravene the mandatory standard. Adequate care instructions generally mu st include information on the following: ? general care and warnings ? washing ? drying ? ironing (except on items not generally ironed, eg. socks) ? dry cleaning ? special instructions The following information refers to the last two categories: ________________________________________________________________________________________ DRY CLEANING A dry cleaning instructio n must be included on all garments, except those from the following categories: ? hosiery ? swimwear ? all underwear ? Austin Group will issue a Do not dry clean instruction for swimwear and underwear. Some garments may not be dry cleanable due to their accessorie s. It is the responsibility of the manufacturer to identify these garments. Examples may include: ? some buttons ? some fabric prints and dyes ? some foil prints ? some fusible interlinings Some garments are not dry cleanable and should include the instructions: "Do not dry clean ". Examples include: ? acrylic foam ? acrylic prints ? fabrics and elastics containing elastane ? fluoro dyes and prints ? mother of pearl ? pigment dyes and prints ? plastisol prints ? polyester holofil ? polypropylene ? polyvinylchloride (PVC) ? puff prints ? sequins, beads and jewel studs ? embroideries ? rubber badges/accessories X X 3 S6-AUSTIN STANDARD CARE LABELS – REVISED
